A sea of plastic: What does a garbage vortex actually look like?

Input from Dr. Mark Lenz, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel

Dr. Mark Lenz is a marine biologist working in the Department of Marine Ecology at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel. His work focuses on the effects of human activities on the ecosystems of coastal waters.

What happens to plastic waste in the ocean? How does it get from the coasts to the deep sea? Dr. Marc Lenz takes us on board the research vessel POSEIDON for an expedition into the North Atlantic garbage vortex.
