DARA BREXENDORF
Reading and discussion as part of the ‘Young Literature from Schleswig-Holstein’ series
DARA BREXENDORF, born in 1991, lives in Kiel, her home town, where she works as a freelance writer and literary educator. She hosts the open-mic night at the Literaturhaus Schleswig-Holstein, and is a contributor to the podcast “Literarisch, Solidarisch” and the literary magazine “Der Schnipsel”. In 2025, she was awarded the Liliencron Young Writers’ Prize in Kiel.
Her debut novel, Paradise Beach, tells the story of Ada, who, following surgery for endometriosis, can barely sleep and embarks on a journey down memory lane – to a summer of her youth on the Baltic coast that continues to resonate to this day. A poetic, moving novel about the body and pain, and about the threads that connect the past with the present.
Dara Brexendorf is a guest as part of “Young Literature from Schleswig-Holstein” – a new format in the Kulturzelt, where young authors not only read from their work but also talk about where their ideas and stories come from and how to find one’s way into the literary world.
