ROLF BOSCHEINEN

Painting on driftwood

The Hamburg-based painter ROLF BOSCHEINEN has found his subject – and his canvas to boot. He paints fish on driftwood washed ashore and carefully selected planks that he collects from the banks of the Elbe and the Alster – or occasionally brings back from further afield, such as the Danish North Sea coast, Venice or La Rochelle.
Both the subject and the canvas originate from the same element: water. What has been washed ashore now supports what lives within it – and this logic makes the works as harmonious as they are distinctive.
