BYCATCH

By night, they transform: as darkness falls, BYCATCH is illuminated, bathing the Schlei in a captivating display of light.

The Berlin-based artist duo Abie Franklin and Daniel Hölzl transform massive concrete wave breakers into soft, walkable inflatable sculptures. The tetrapods, which have protected coastlines around the world since the 1950s, become gentle, air-filled sculptures in BYCATCH – a symbol of the unintended bycatch of human activity: pollution, rising sea levels and coastal erosion.

At NORDEN LIGHTS, this transformation takes on another dimension. Illuminated after dark, these giant forms appear almost weightless, telling their story in a whole new way.
