Maik Günther
A long journey in an ancient vehicle.
Nine countries, more than 100 places, countless adventures and encounters – accompanied by his daughter, Oldenburg’s travel journalist Maik Günther has circumnavigated the Baltic Sea in a 57-year-old folding roof Volkswagen Beetle in the summer of 2017. They were on the road for 34 days, on country roads, gravel tracks, ferries, and most notably: without GPS. 6000 kilometers sans seatbelt and power steering, but on an important mission: to be evocative of the values of the European Union. This is why their Beetle paraded a banner that read: Freedom, democracy, human rights, diversity, and boundlessness. Maik Günther will talk about his adventurous road trip in general, and about Estonia in particular. He will also show photographs.
