"Child of glass"

"Child of Glass" is an unsparing account of the loss of an unborn, long-awaited child, set against the backdrop of political unrest in Ukraine and public debates in Estonia. Author Maarja Kangro approaches the themes of death, trauma, suffering and the "bitter" experience of humility before existence with dark, sarcastic humor. At the same time, she sensitively exposes the protagonist's inner distress with almost surgical precision.
Maarja Kangro, born in Tallinn in 1973, has received numerous literary awards for her diverse body of work. Kangro began her literary career as a translator and as an author of libretti for contemporary classical composers. Her poems and short stories have been translated into more than 20 languages. The Estonian cultural attachée Merit Kopli will moderate and translate the conversation with Maarja Kangro about her novel "Child of Glass", the actress Julia Weden will read the German text.
