Verwandlung
An outcast, penniless young man witnesses a shipwreck on the coast of the Italian Riviera. Only a misshapen dwarf with a sea chest saves himself from the wreck. The young man laments his misfortune and the dwarf offers him a strange exchange: If he may take on the young man's beautiful form for three days, the young man will receive the treasure contained in the sea chest as a reward. The young man agrees, but after three days the dwarf has not yet returned. In the body of the dwarf, he follows its trail and encounters more and more omens of an approaching catastrophe ...
Inspired by the novella Verwandlung by world-renowned author Mary Shelley, Lara Swiontek has created a contemporary graphic novel that brings the romantic horror story about a body swap and the entanglements involved into the present. Swiontek presents her image-rich Verwandlung (avant verlag) and tells how she came to create the material.
Lara Swiontek lives and works as a freelance illustrator in Wismar, where she studied Communication Design & Media at Wismar University of Applied Sciences until 2020. In the fall of 2021, her debut Verwandlung was published by avant-verlag. The graphic novel is her diploma thesis, which was created at the Wismar University of Applied Sciences.
