Mara is a real buccaneer girl, she has 3 grappling hooks, a dog named Landlubber and she storms through her life. Milo is a princess boy, he has 3 coronets, a doll named Lulu and he dances through his everyday life. Milo sets sail with Mara. From Milo, Mara learns that some things get better when they glitter. But one day Mara goes on vacation with her dad to the real sea. The children miss each other terribly. Nothing is as much fun as before, Mara doesn't like the real sea, and Milo's everyday life becomes gray and dull.

When Mara and Milo finally meet again, a lot has changed. They hardly recognize each other and seem to have lost themselves and their friendship. Will the children succeed in finding each other and themselves again?
