SUDDEN LIGHTS (LV)

Pop rock with indie influences

SUDDEN LIGHTS is a band from Latvia that is currently very popular in their home country and has one of the most streams. This year they are representing Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool. SUDDEN LIGHTS play a mixture of pop-rock with slight indie influences. The band's music is characterised by catchy melodies that are perfect for dancing, with one or two melancholic notes. Everything is infused with youthful energy. The band consists of Kārlis Vārtiņš (bass guitar), Mārtis Matīss Zemītis (percussion), Andrejs Reinis Zitmanis (vocals) and Kārlis Matīss Zitmanis (guitar). This year the band took part in the song contest "Supernova 2023", organised by Latvian Television, with the song "Aijā", where they won 1st place.

SUDDEN LIGHTS was formed back in 2012 by all the members, who were students at Pāvuls Jurjāns Music School at the time. Their first stepping stone on the road to growth was their win at the Riga State 1st Gymnasium's Pirmā Record Competition for Young Musicians in 2015. Their subsequent creative efforts culminated in the band's debut album, preceded by the singles "Priekšpilsētas valsis", "Laikmets" and "Šajā sētas pusē", which were immediately played by Latvian radio stations. Meanwhile, music videos for the songs "Priekšpilsētas valsis" and "Šajā sētas pusē" were released.
