Sailing Olympics

Cinema film about the spirit of sailing - completely without words - but with music from the band Helgoland, which brings the film images to speak in its own way.

Dieter Krastel was at the 1972 Sailing Olympics with his S8 camera and had access to all the regattas as a boat surveyor. His boss at Siemens had given him the days off, was involved like Dieter through the Kiel Yacht Club. The engineer and filmmaker worked as an amateur, just like the Olympic regatta sailors. The now 85-year-old Kieler filmed the famous star boat "Sunny" in 1972 as well as the Flying Dutchmen, but the terror in Munich also overshadowed the Kiel sailing competitions: flags at half-mast, some crocheted black-red-gold on their bell-bottoms... Rasmus Gerlach, with the help of the band Helgoland, gave the film its own sound that recaptures the feeling of that special moment - the wind in the sails, the waves as paths to victory in the sailing classes that are classics today. The premiere was in the context of 50 years of sailing Olympics in Schilksee!
