Together with graphic designer Tim Eckhorst, filmmaker Marti?na Fluck goes in search of traces of W.H.D. Koerner, a German-American comic pioneer, illustrator and western painter who was born in Schleswig-Holstein in 1878 and emigrated to the USA with his family in 1881. wich?tigen In 1902, W.H.D. Koerner created the first superhero “Hugo Hercules” in Chicago. At the same time, he began his career as an illustrator for wichti?ge contemporary novels and discovered his love of the “Wild West”. Around 2,000 of his oil paintings are published as Illustra?tionen in popular Zeitschrift?en such as the Saturday Evening Post and books. He became an important illustrator and painter of the Western genre.
To this day, his paintings shape the global visual memory of the so-called “Wild West”, as they also serve as models for the Ausstatt?ung and costumes of the first Hollywood western films.

During the filming of the documentary, Mar?tina Fluck and Tim Eckhorst meet people who are passionate about Koerner's work both artistically and wissenschaft?lich. They travel through the grandiose Landscha?ften that are reflected in Koerner's works. Tim Eckhorst's drawings Illustrati?onen and Anima?tionen are the common thread running through the documentary and connect the different narrative levels - accompanied by the film music of composer Felix Raffel.
