NORDIC TALKING | DANIEL GÜNTHER
Thursday, 29.08.2024
"Mr. Unknown topples SPD" - this was the headline in some newspapers in 2017 when DANIEL GÜNTHER won the election in Schleswig-Holstein. He has been Prime Minister ever since. And now his name is sometimes mentioned when it comes to the CDU/CSU's next candidacy for chancellor. Günther has earned himself a reputation as a northern German doer. In 2022, he and his CDU were re-elected with more than 43% of the vote. His self-confidence is growing. From time to time, there have also been criticisms of CDU party leader Friedrich Merz from the north. Günther is seen as a likeable, approachable state leader. At the same time, the state's finances look bleak. And now? What's next for Schleswig-Holstein? And is Daniel Günther perhaps drawn to federal politics after all? We ask him - during a round of NORDIC TALKING right at the festival opening!
Dry in humor, cool in disposition, not a word too much - that's how he is, the North German. Or so they say. But we still manage to have good conversations! NORDIC TALKING is about political and personal issues. Our guests are inspiring northerners who are committed to change and Nordic cohesion - find out more about their visions, goals and how they use their own personal experiences to make the region even better: How are you shaping the North? And what does the North do to you?
The series will be hosted by journalist STEFAN RYCHLAK. He has been working for ARD-aktuell in Hamburg for more than 20 years and is head of the tagesschau newsroom. Rychlak works in the Hanseatic city, lives in Schleswig-Holstein and wants to be honest when it comes to Nordic Talking.
