NORDEN - the nordic arts festival

More artists have been confirmed

More highlights await us at the NORDEN Festival 2023! With today's Culture Wave we announce further highlights for the anniversary edition in late summer and thus a large part of this year's cultural programme is already known. The announcement of the final artists will follow at the end of April, thus completing the entire cultural programme for NORDEN 2023. It remains exciting!

The first festival weekend (24 - 27 August) will begin with a true great in the field of music. POHLMANN's career began 17 years ago with his hit Wenn jetzt Sommer wär. Today, the Hamburg native is an integral part of the German-language music scene and just released his new EP Columbus at the beginning of the year.

Also with a new album, the band PUDELDAME around actor Jonas Nay will take to the stage and provide the atmosphere for the evening. No one should sit still and listen to Pudeldame's music. The songwriter of a new generation, MISS ALLIE, oscillates with her music between chanson, songwriting, comedy and cabaret. Laugh heartily, cry with emotion, break open taboo topics: All this happens at a Miss Allie concert. AYSAY from Denmark are guests at the NORDEN Festival. A Danish trio from Aarhus that perfectly reflects the diversity and mix of cultures that permeate Danish society today. The band sings in Danish, Turkish and Kurdish and their sound is folk and pop-rock with psychedelic touches. WEZN take their audience into mystical sound worlds between minimalism and extremes by interweaving synthesiser with acoustic dums and emotional earworm melodies.

The festival continues on the second weekend (31 August - 03 September) with a soul spectacle from the Netherlands. MICHELLE DAVID & THE TRUE TONES want to bring people the true message of music, which is love, unity and cohesion. The lyrics celebrate life and are full of positive affirmations. The performance of Michelle David & The True Tones is financed by the NORDEN Freundeskreis e. V.

The LATVIAN BLUES BAND has travelled from Latvia to be a guest at NORDEN. The band plays as if from one mould, the wind instruments are always used at the right moment. With NOTH we embark on a love story set to music. In "The Truth about Arndt" we meet the protagonist in the zoo and have to say goodbye to him in a forest bath. And then jazz, techno and hip hop are mixed together again. With SKILBECK, bombastic basses, cool sax solos and rolling rhythms make people dance and marvel. At least, that's how the four musicians themselves describe their band.

Another programme item on the last festival weekend (07 - 10 September): GET JEALOUS. No matter whether you call their music pop or point, whether you find it intimidating, inviting, refreshing or way too serious: Get Jealous have still captivated most people in front of the stage so far.

In the literature section, the first festival weekend starts with KRISTINE BILKAU. Her novel Nebenan was nominated for the German Book Prize last year. The protgagonists circle around each other like strangers, seemingly unnoticed by their neighbours; they want connection and yet withdraw into the private sphere. Their paths cross, their stories connect with each other, because they are looking for what we all long for: Security, belonging and familiarity. With globetrotter GUNNAR GREEN, we travel through Poland's national parks on the big screen, with elks, bison and wolves. The travel experiences convey a lot about our neighbouring country and the people in wolf regions - presented with spectacular aerial shots of nature and a great entertainment factor.

On the second festival weekend MARCEL KRÜGER presents an island and its books - Iceland. He roams through the history and literature of this fascinating country and takes us to the central places. From the Arctic Ocean to ghost fjords to volcanic craters and the wet grave of the gods. Because behind every glacier or waterfall there is a good story in Iceland. LAURA CWERTNIA reads from her moving debut novel On the Street We Are Called Different, which impressively tells what it feels like to be on the fringes of a society. The story of an Armenian family whose experiences are so profound that they still resonate generations later.

ALEX & BARTI perform at the Manege in the Park on the last weekend of the festival. Alex is the designer and manipulator of Mr Barti, a puppet with a complex construction system that he uses to constantly seek, develop and study the perfection of movements. Barti's more than 40 strings allow him to move his body and express emotions in unique ways.

There are barely five months left until this year's NORDEN - The Nordic Arts Festival in Schleswig. The three festival weekends should have some great surprises and news in store for all visitors, and so the organisers are working flat out on the preparations for the late summer on the Königswiesen. It's worth checking the website www.norden-festival.com regularly or following the social media channels. Maybe there will be a great offer for NORDEN fans in just a few days?

Three unforgettable festival weekends are behind us and we are so full of love and gratitude for this fantastic festival experience at the Königswiesen. In the meantime, we are back in our office routine and still reminisce about this year's NORDEN Festival.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all visitors. It was simply great to celebrate NORDEN together with all of you! We will carry this very special feeling in our hearts for a long time and, even if the summer is gradually coming to an end and it is getting colder outside, we will remember the 12 days of NORDEN Festival with you with a smile.

Opening NORDEN Festival 2023
It's starting again! The NORDEN is celebrated on the Königswiesen in Schleswig! Twelve days of music and literature, street theater, film and lots of action for children, plus a variety of gastronomy in a great setting await the visitors. Even the little bit of rain could not harm the guests at the NORDEN Festival and so the place in front of the Schleibühne filled up until finally Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of the Interior DR. SABINE SÜTTERLIN-WAACK together with Schleswig's mayor, STEPHAN DOSE, and the festival founders MANFRED PAKUSIUS AND MARNO HAPP opened the fifth NORDEN Festival. Musically, the NORDEN was opened by the Schleswig CHORCOLORES, as in previous years.
German Sign Language at NORDEN
The NORDEN Festival should be accessible for all people and so our team is gradually working on the implementation of barrier-free measures on the Königswiesen. Especially for hearing impaired and deaf people we have created an extended offer in 2023. All events in the Kulturzelt will be accompanied in German Sign Language on Fridays and Saturdays. In addition, there is a mobile induction loop for hearing-impaired people in the Culture Tent, Atrium and Cinema.
All information about accessibility at the NORDEN can be found at: https://www.norden-festival.com/de/Barrierefrei.
