NORDEN - the nordic arts festival

The cultural program of NORDEN Festival grows once again before Christmas

Shortly before Christmas, we are adding many more program points in the areas of music, literature, theater, art and film. Visitors NORDEN can look forward to a special and northern European cultural program from 25.8.-11.9.22.

The cultural diversity of NORDEN
More than 30 different program points have already been fixed for the three festival weekends. The music program will now be expanded with many more acts from Hamburg, Scandinavia, the Baltic States and, for the first time, the Netherlands.
On the first festival weekend in 2022, the Hamburg band Danube's Banks will bring swing with elements of klezmer and Balkan to the Königswiesen in Schleswig. The Dutch soul-pop band and hip-hop crew The Cool Quest will play on the second festival weekend, and their name as well as their sounds are reminiscent of the US hip-hop band "A Tribe Called Quest". On the same weekend the music program will be completed by the performance of the German singer-songwriter Cäthe. Ten years ago, her album "Ich muss Gar Nichts" was released, which combined pop and punk, but also singer songwriter sounds and brought Cäthe greater fame. At the beginning of 2022 she brings out her current album "Chill Out Punk". She has remained largely true to her style, even if - as the title already reveals - it is no longer quite so dark, loud and extroverted.
Other artists for 2022 are also Tom Gatza from Hamburg as well as I See Rivers from Norway and Chris Noah from Latvia.

In addition to the music program, the literature and film sections are also looking forward to new additions. Timo Peters will be a guest in Kulturzelt and read from his book "Couchsailing: Wie ich per An Hitchhiker über den Atlantik reiste". The blogger and journalist, who now lives in Norway, experienced plenty of adventures and bizarre moments on his sailing trip, which he will share with visitors on the second festival weekend.

The first film for the NORDEN Open-Air Cinema has also already been confirmed. Tove, a film by Finnish director Zaida Bergroth, tells of the exciting life of Finland's best-known author and cartoonist, whose groundbreaking work has enchanted generations of children and adults. In 2021, Tove was the Finnish entry for Best International Film at the Oscars.

Landestheater goes NORDEN!
The Schleswig-Holstein Landestheater is participating in the NORDEN Festival 2022 with three contributions for young and old. On Sunday, September 4, the members of the acting ensemble will move outside into the fresh air and show their musical side on the garden stage. On the following Sunday, September 11, puppeteer Sonja Langmack will offer entertainment for the whole family twice in the Culture Tent. And the theater pedagogy invites to workshops, in which the participants may offer their very own creativity.
The theater deck on the Königswiesen is being rebuilt and will now be called "Manege im Park".
From Finland comes the first program item on the theater deck. Sisus Sirkus is an all-female contemporary circus group presenting their show "Memories of Mud" on the first festival weekend. A tale of two women, comedic and touching at the same time.

NEW! Art on the canal
There will be another novelty in the field of art. Festival initiator Manfred Pakusius: "Art and artistic creation in the form of exhibitions, the construction of art sculptures, participatory art projects and workshops have been part of our program since 2018. At the request of many artists, we are now also planning an art market where artists can exhibit and also sell their works on all three weekends, each Saturday and Sunday." Applications can be submitted today at

Great concerts, enthusiastic visitors, exciting readings and completely new topics - and twelve days of almost nothing but good weather: The NORDEN Festival looks back on an all-around successful fourth edition on the Königswiesen! 35,000 visitors came to the idyllic festival site on the Schlei during the twelve days of the festival. Far more than in 2021.
Note weather situation 3rd festival weekend
After two great festival weekends with bright sunshine on the Königswiesen, we have to expect rain showers this Thursday. Therefore, the performances will be moved from the Manege im Park to other venues. This concerns Thursday. From Friday, all performances should be able to take place.
On Wednesday, September 07, 2022, you can buy 1,000 limited Early Bird tickets for the NORDEN - The Nordic Arts Festival 2023 exclusively at the bookstore Liesegang in Schleswig. In addition, 500 limited Early Bird tickets will be available for 89 € plus advance booking fees (reduced 79 € plus advance booking fees) in the NORDEN online store. A maximum of four tickets per person will be sold. Reservations are not possible.

Tickets at the regular price will be available in the online store after this year's NORDEN Festival.
Panel discussions at NORDEN
Last Sunday the first panel discussion in the context of NORDPOP22 took place. Frank Spilker (singer Die Sterne) talked with Nina Müller (singer WIM) and Frehn Havel (Konzertdirektion Karsten Jahnke) about the effects of the Corona Pandemic on the music industry and faced the question: What's next for the music industry?

On Thursday, September 01, another panel discussion around accessibility at festivals will follow at 6:15 pm in the Atrium. Moderated by Caro Schwarz (Musikspots), the accessibility officer of the NORDEN Festival, Philine Burmeister, will talk with Mirko and Lucas of the band Bitte Lächeln about the possibilities to make festivals and music events much more inclusive.
Note ticket sales
At the Königswiesen we have a box office open for you every day, where you can purchase tickets for all event days. There are no tickets available in the NORDEN online store for the current event day.
Summer of CoCreation
05.09. - 07.09. Königswiesen, Schleswig

At the Summer of CoCreation you can expect a diverse program around topics of digitalization in the city of Flensburg and the districts of Nordfriesland and Schleswig-Flensburg, which want to become the Smart Border Region between the Seas. A central component is the presentation of projects and prototypes that are being developed jointly - i.e. co-creatively - by actors from the region. These first "plietsche" implementation ideas from different subject areas from public services to open data should make the region fit for the present and the future. All visitors are invited to get to know these first implementation projects and to give feedback and suggestions on the project ideas to the developers on site.
The countdown is on
Only 1 month until NORDEN - The Nordic Arts Festival 2022

Soon it will be colorful on the Königswiesen! Full of anticipation, we are currently in the final preparations for this year's NORDEN - The Nordic Arts Festival and will start setting up at the Baltic Sea Fjord Schlei in just a few weeks. We can hardly wait to celebrate together with you!
You can look forward to more than 400 artists from 10 northern European countries, numerous workshops and sports activities for the whole family. You can find the entire program here in the overview or in the festival app.
Accessibility at NORDEN
We would like to experience the unique culture of Northern Europe together and also enable people with impairments to access the festival. Therefore, in the coming years, together with our partners Rotary Club Schleswig/Gottorf and the Schleswiger Werkstätten, we will expand a comprehensive barrier-free and inclusive offer to make the NORDEN as accessible as possible for everyone. This year, the focus is initially on an expanded offer for hearing-impaired and deaf people.
